In a tragic incident on Monday, Indian national Pat Nibin Maxwell lost his life, while two others, Bush Joseph George and Paul Melvin, sustained injuries in an anti-tank missile strike on an orchard in Margaliot, Israel. All three victims hailed from Kerala. The missile strike is believed to have been carried out by Hezbollah, supporting Hamas in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Maxwell’s father, Pathrose Maxwell, revealed that his son had witnessed a cross-border attack two weeks ago but was not allowed to move to a safer zone by Israeli authorities. Maxwell, who had been in Israel for two months on a work contract, was working on a farm at the time of the attack. He leaves behind a five-year-old daughter, and his wife, who is seven months pregnant.

Pathrose Maxwell urged both Israel and Hamas to prioritize the safety of foreign nationals and relocate them to secure areas. The Israeli embassy expressed shock on social media, condemning the “cowardly terror attack” by Hezbollah on peaceful agriculture workers.

In response to the incident, the Indian government issued an advisory for Indians in Israel, especially those in border areas, urging them to relocate to safer zones. The Indian embassy and consulate provided helpline numbers and urged nationals to share the advisory for wider circulation.

This unfortunate event highlights the need for heightened security measures and international cooperation to ensure the safety of foreign nationals in conflict zones. The situation remains tense, prompting authorities to take proactive steps to protect Indian citizens in Israel.
