Arvind Kejriwal Faces Potential Arrest Amidst Delhi Liquor Policy Probe

In a significant development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may be facing imminent arrest following a raid at his residence. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have alleged a potential arrest after Mr. Kejriwal declined to appear for questioning in the Delhi liquor policy case. The situation escalated as roads leading to his home were reportedly blocked by Delhi police.

This marked the third notice to Mr. Kejriwal, who is also the AAP’s national convenor, after he refused to comply with Enforcement Directorate (ED) summonses on two previous occasions, namely November 2 and December 21. ED’s legal team is currently examining Mr. Kejriwal’s response, and fresh summonses are anticipated to be issued.

Amidst growing tension, several AAP leaders, including Atishi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Jasmine Shah, and Sandeep Pathak, took to social media to announce the possibility of a raid at Mr. Kejriwal’s residence, hinting at a potential arrest.

Mr. Kejriwal contends that the summonses are “motivated” and raises concerns about whether he is being called as a witness or a suspect in the case. The AAP alleges that this could be a strategic move to hinder his participation in the upcoming national elections later this year.

With three prominent AAP leaders already in jail, including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendra Jain, the party has been preparing for such an eventuality. There are discussions within the party about the potential courses of action, with a preference for Mr. Kejriwal to continue as Chief Minister even if he is compelled to operate from jail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused liquor companies of influencing the Delhi excise policy for a projected 12% profit. Dubbed the “South Group,” investigators allege that the liquor lobby facilitated kickbacks, with a portion allegedly routed to officials and politicians. The ED is investigating money laundering related to these kickbacks.

The situation remains fluid as the legal proceedings unfold, and the political landscape in Delhi experiences heightened tension.
