In a fiery address at a fundraising event on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden didn’t mince words as he took aim at Russian President Vladimir Putin and his former rival, Donald Trump. The event, held in San Francisco as part of Biden’s three-day West Coast trip, saw the President expressing deep concerns about the global implications of leaders like Putin.

Biden did not hold back in his criticism, referring to Putin as a “crazy SOB” and expressing disbelief at Trump’s recent comparison of himself to the late Russian dissident, Alexey Navalny. The President underscored the constant threat of nuclear conflict posed by leaders like Putin, emphasizing the need for vigilance on such matters.
“We have a crazy SOB like that guy Putin, and others, and we always have to worry about nuclear conflict,” Biden stated emphatically during the fundraiser. He went on to rebuke Trump’s comparison to Navalny, who tragically lost his life after being poisoned and imprisoned by the Kremlin. “I don’t know where the hell this comes from. It astounds me, the things that are being said. I mean, if I stood here 10, 15 years ago and said any of this, you’d all think I should be committed.”
The San Francisco fundraiser, part of Biden’s broader West Coast tour, contributed significantly to his campaign coffers. Reports indicate that as of the end of January, the campaign has successfully raised $130 million.
Trump’s Controversial Comparison
Adding to the political drama, Trump appeared on a Fox News town hall on Tuesday night, sympathizing with Navalny’s plight and drawing parallels to his own legal battles. Despite facing four criminal indictments, Trump did not criticize Putin for Navalny’s death or Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine. Instead, he claimed political persecution by his opponents.
White House Announces “Major Sanctions Package”
In response to Navalny’s death and Russia’s actions in Ukraine, the White House announced plans to unveil a “major sanctions package” against Russia on Friday. The proposed sanctions aim to intensify pressure on Putin’s regime and supplement existing measures.
However, despite the urgency of the situation, Congress has yet to approve additional aid to Ukraine. Partisan disputes have stalled progress on this front, with the House of Representatives currently on a break this week.
As tensions escalate on the global stage, all eyes are now on the anticipated unveiling of the sanctions package and the ongoing political maneuvering between the Biden administration and Congress.
