According to a report by news agency ANI, the BJP has strongly condemned Ghosh’s comments and has demanded an explanation from him on the matter. Reacting to the notice, Ghosh, while addressing reporters, acknowledged that this wasn’t the first time his statements had sparked controversy. He asserted, “I speak in front of those who commit injustice,” indicating his steadfastness in expressing his views.

Ghosh expressed his readiness to provide an official response to the notice, acknowledging the concerns raised by the party regarding his choice of words. However, he maintained his stance on addressing issues directly, regardless of the consequences.

Earlier, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Dilip Ghosh for allegedly making contentious remarks targeting Mamata Banerjee. The TMC accused Ghosh of violating the Model Code of Conduct by indulging in personal attacks, as per the clause prohibiting statements that may be malicious or offensive.

In a press conference held in Durgapur, Ghosh ignited further controversy by questioning Mamata Banerjee’s identity, stating, “When Didi (CM Mamata Banerjee) goes to Goa, she calls herself the daughter of Goa. When she goes to Tripura, she says that she is the daughter of Tripura. She should first identify her own father.”

The TMC, in response to Ghosh’s remarks, called for immediate action from the ECI, citing his comments as not only breaching the boundaries of decency but also perpetuating misogyny and disrespect towards women in power. TMC leaders, including Kirti Azad and Shashi Panja, criticized Ghosh’s statements, emphasizing the need to defeat such attitudes in the upcoming elections.

The ongoing exchange of words between political leaders underscores the charged atmosphere in the run-up to the elections, with each party vying to assert its narrative while scrutinizing opponents’ conduct closely. As the political landscape intensifies, the ECI’s role becomes crucial in maintaining decorum and upholding the principles of fair play in the electoral process.
