Congress Leader’s Derogatory Remark Sparks Controversy Over Kangana Ranaut’s Political Debut

A contentious social media post by a Congress leader targeting actor Kangana Ranaut’s entry into electoral politics has ignited a fresh wave of controversy, prompting the National Commission for Women (NCW) to demand swift action against the politician involved.

Congress Leader's Derogatory Remark Sparks Controversy Over Kangana Ranaut's Political Debut

The post, shared on Instagram by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, surfaced just weeks ahead of the national elections. Kangana Ranaut, known for her roles in various Bollywood films, is contesting the elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

Responding to Shrinate’s remarks, Ranaut took to social media to assert her stance, emphasizing the need to liberate women from societal prejudices. She highlighted her diverse portrayals on screen, urging for respect and dignity for every woman.

In a subsequent video clarification, Shrinate distanced herself from the derogatory post, attributing it to a parody account operating under her name. She reiterated her commitment to respecting women and expressed regret over the incident.

Ranaut, however, continued to call out such derogatory remarks, sharing screenshots of conversations where Congress leaders allegedly made offensive comments about her political debut. She condemned the sexualization of her candidacy and criticized the sexist tendencies displayed by certain individuals within the Congress party.

Union Minister Smriti Irani rallied behind Ranaut, praising her resilience in the face of adversity and condemning the Congress for its purported sexist remarks. Irani’s show of support further escalated the political tensions surrounding the issue.

The NCW swiftly intervened, sending a letter to the Election Commission of India, urging for immediate action against those responsible for the offensive remarks. The women’s body condemned the behavior as disgraceful and called for upholding the dignity of women in public discourse.

As the controversy rages on, with political figures from various parties weighing in, the incident underscores the broader challenges faced by women in politics and the imperative to combat misogyny in public life.
