In a statement provided to various media outlets, the semiconductor giant, headquartered in Santa Clara, confirmed the workforce reduction. The statement highlighted Intel’s commitment to accelerating its strategy while simultaneously implementing cost-reduction measures, which include specific workplace reductions across various business functions.

The company’s release also hinted at the possibility of further job cuts in 2024. In the preceding rounds of layoffs earlier this year, Intel eliminated 549 positions at its Folsom campus, constituting approximately 10% of the total organizational workforce. The Folsom facility is integral to diverse research and development activities, encompassing the development of solid-state drives (SSDs), graphic processors, software, and chipsets.

Moreover, reports suggest that up to 20% of employees within Intel’s client computer and data center divisions may also face potential layoffs. In California, where Intel’s Santa Clara headquarters is situated, over 13,000 individuals are employed by the company, constituting nearly 10% of its global workforce, which totals 131,900 employees. The layoffs form part of Intel’s broader efforts to realign its operational strategy and manage costs effectively.
