Banerjee pledged to ensure Gangopadhyay’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and accused him of jeopardizing jobs for thousands of youths through his judgments.

Mamata Banerjee’s Condemnation and Allegations

In response to Gangopadhyay’s switch to the BJP, Mamata Banerjee declared, “We will ensure your defeat no matter from where you contest in the Lok Sabha polls,” as reported by PTI. She accused the former judge of taking away jobs from the youth through his judicial decisions, asserting, “The youths will not forgive you. All your judgments are under question. We will ensure your defeat.”

Gangopadhyay Joins BJP Amidst Controversy

Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who resigned from his position as a judge at the Calcutta High Court, was welcomed into the BJP with a grand ceremony at the party’s office in Salt Lake. State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar handed him the party flag, and Gangopadhyay expressed his commitment to working as a party soldier. He cited the objective of ousting the “corrupt TMC regime” from the state.

Gangopadhyay’s Background and Controversial Rulings

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a high court judge since 2018, has a background as a West Bengal Civil Service Grade A officer before transitioning to a career in law. Born in Kolkata in 1962, he faced controversies for his rulings, notably an interview given to a TV channel while hearing a case related to the ‘school jobs for cash scam’ last April.

BJP Welcomes Gangopadhyay; Promises Political Transformation

Sukanta Majumdar, State President of BJP, welcomed Gangopadhyay into the party, praising his work as a judge for the deprived and exploited victims in Bengal. Majumdar expressed optimism about a transformative turn in Bengal’s politics and called upon educated youth to contribute positively to the state’s political landscape.

The political landscape in West Bengal intensifies as Mamata Banerjee and Abhijit Gangopadhyay engage in a war of words, setting the stage for a heated political battle in the upcoming elections.
