Militant Assault on Police Station in Northern Pakistan Claims Lives of 10 Officers
In a tragic incident, several militants launched a brazen assault on a police station in northern Pakistan in the early hours of Monday, resulting in the untimely death of at least 10 officers. The attack also left a reported six police officers injured, highlighting the gravity of the assault.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Akhtar Hayat Gandapur confirmed the attack, stating that it occurred at the Chaudhwan police station in the Dera Ismail Khan district. The assailants reportedly initiated the attack at 3 am local time (2200 GMT), engaging constables with snipers before infiltrating the police station, as per reports from law enforcement officers in Pakistan’s Draban region.
Gandapur provided details of the assault, revealing that more than 30 terrorists orchestrated the attack from three different directions. The exchange of fire lasted for over two and a half hours, demonstrating the intensity and scale of the confrontation.
Deputy superintendent of police in Draban, Malik Anees ul Hassan, highlighted the ruthlessness of the attackers, stating, “After entering the building of the police station, the terrorists used hand grenades, which caused more casualties to the police.”
This distressing incident adds to the growing concerns over escalating violence in the lead-up to Pakistan’s national elections scheduled later this week. The South Asian nation has witnessed a surge in violent incidents in recent days, raising alarms about the security situation as the country prepares for the crucial electoral process.
