Nikki Haley Gains Ground on Trump in New Hampshire Polls Ahead of 2024 Republican Primary

In the lead-up to the 2024 Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire, a recent poll indicates that Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, is narrowing the gap with Donald Trump. The poll, conducted within a 4% margin of error, shows Trump leading with 33% support, closely followed by Haley at 29%. The primary, scheduled for January 23, has become a focal point for conservative voters assessing alternatives within the party.

Nikki Haley has seen a significant surge in support in New Hampshire, garnering 29% in the latest poll, compared to Trump’s 33%. This indicates a competitive landscape within the Republican Party, as Trump faces a candidate with substantial backing.

Despite holding the lead, Trump has not shied away from targeting Haley on his Truth Social platform, referring to her as “Birdbrain” and dismissing the polls as “fake.” However, reports suggest that Trump has explored the possibility of choosing Haley as his running mate if he secures the nomination, hinting at a strategic move to leverage her popularity.

Proud of her poll results, Haley addressed the growing attention at a town hall in Iowa, emphasizing, “We’re surging.” The former US ambassador to the UN has gained momentum since September, where a prior poll showed her with half of her current support.

Haley, known for her tenure as governor of South Carolina and US ambassador to the UN under Trump, signed a law banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. The law took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.

Donald Trump is currently facing 91 criminal charges, including attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss, mishandling government secrets post-presidency, and allegations of paying off a porn star. Additionally, he faces civil lawsuits related to his business dealings and a rape accusation.

Trump has faced criticism for allegedly having books by Adolf Hitler near his bed. Some have drawn parallels between Trump’s language on immigrants and historical tyrants like Hitler and Mussolini.

As the 2024 primary draws near, the dynamic between Trump and Haley underscores the evolving landscape within the Republican Party, with voters weighing their options beyond the former president.
