In a shocking turn of events, the Haryana police are investigating the potential involvement of notorious UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, in the recent murder of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Haryana unit chief Nafe Singh Rathee. Who is Kapil Sangwan?

At 32 years old, Kapil Sangwan hails from Delhi’s Najafgarh and is wanted in a staggering 18 cases related to serious crimes, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, and violations of the arms act across Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Having abandoned a hotel management course in Haryana’s Manesar, Sangwan has become a prominent figure in the world of crime. Law enforcement authorities have announced a reward of ₹2 lakh for his arrest.

Motive Behind the Alleged Murder

Sangwan, in a recent social media post, claimed responsibility for the brutal murder of Nafe Singh Rathee and Jai Kishan. According to the post, Rathee was closely associated with Sangwan’s rival gangster, Manjeet Mahal. The Haryana police are currently verifying the post, which features a photograph of Rathee allegedly shaking hands with Mahal.

The roots of animosity between Sangwan and Mahal trace back to an alleged act of revenge. In 2017, Sangwan reportedly killed Mahal’s father, Shri Krishna. The recent social media post by Sangwan suggests that Rathee supported Mahal in the murder of Sangwan’s brother-in-law, Sunil.

“Anyone supporting my enemies would face retaliation. Bahadurgarh knows the number of people Rathee captured and killed while in power. No one could raise their voice because of his power,” claimed Sangwan in the post.

A Delhi police officer, quoted by PTI, revealed that Sangwan’s elder brother, Jyoti Prakash alias Baba, currently incarcerated in Tihar jail, allegedly ordered him to seek revenge.

Criminal Background of Kapil Sangwan

Sangwan’s criminal record dates back to 2014 when he was booked in an extortion case. The same year, he faced charges in a robbery case in Haryana’s Jind. He was arrested in 2016 in Rajasthan and was later booked under MCOCA by the Delhi Police Special Cell in 2019.

In 2020, Sangwan fled to the United Kingdom after being released on parole. According to police sources, he acquired a fake passport from UP’s Bareilly and escaped to Dubai via Thailand before settling in the UK.

Threats to Rathee’s Family

Meanwhile, the family of Nafe Singh Rathee has received 18 threatening calls from an unknown number. The caller warned the deceased politician’s sons to refrain from speaking to the media about the murder and even sent a picture of a weapon, claiming it would be used to eliminate the family if they continued their media interactions.

This development adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted case, as authorities grapple with the international dimensions of organized crime and its tragic consequences for local politics.
