How to Make a Homemade Pizza from Scratch

Here’s a detailed recipe for making a homemade pizza from scratch that you can follow:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105°F-115°F)
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active dry yeast
  • 3 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (omit if cooking pizza in a wood-fired pizza oven)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Stir until the yeast is dissolved.

Add the flour, olive oil, salt, and sugar to the bowl. Mix until the dough comes together.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.

Preheat your oven to 450°F. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Roll each part out into a 12-inch circle.

Place the dough on a lightly floured pizza peel or baking sheet.

Add your desired toppings and bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Tips

  • For a crispier crust, use less sauce and toppings.
  • For a softer crust, use more sauce and toppings.
  • Use a pizza stone for the best results.
  • Experiment with different toppings to find your favorite combination.
