Emotional Testimony and Health Challenges

Goyal, in his submission to the court, broke down, conveying that he would prefer to die in jail than endure the present situation. He disclosed missing his wife, Anita, who is battling advanced-stage cancer, while he remains in judicial custody at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. Goyal’s daughter is also reported to be unwell, adding to the family’s emotional strain.

The court records noted Goyal’s physical condition, stating that he needs assistance even to stand. Goyal described experiencing severe pain while urinating, with instances of passing blood, and highlighted that his knees are swollen, making it difficult to fold his legs.

The legal saga began on July 20 last year when the ED conducted raids on Naresh Goyal and his associates following an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The FIR implicated Jet Airways India Limited, Goyal, his wife Anita, ex-company executive G Shetty, and unknown public servants based on Canara Bank’s complaint.

According to the FIR, Canara Bank alleged that it sanctioned credit limits and loans totaling ₹848.86 crore to Jet Airways, out of which ₹538.62 crore remains outstanding. The account was declared fraudulent on July 29, 2021. The bank further claimed that a forensic audit revealed diversion of funds, with related companies receiving ₹1,410.41 crore in commission expenses.

As Naresh Goyal’s legal battle unfolds, his emotional plea and deteriorating health underscore the human side of the legal proceedings. The court is yet to determine the course of action, but Goyal’s emotional testimony may influence the proceedings in this high-profile case.
