Veteran Indian Navy Soldires Released by Qatar

India declared today that the eight seasoned sailors of the Indian Navy who had been condemned to capital punishment in Qatar have been liberated. As per an official declaration by the Ministry of External Affairs, seven among them have repatriated to India.

The septet, including Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, Commander Amit Nagpal, and Sailor Ragesh, were engaged with a private enterprise known as Dahra Global company while stationed in Qatar.

Their involvement revolved around the facilitation of Italian U212 clandestine submarines’ integration into the Qatari Emiri Naval Force within their individual capacities.
